When in Belize

Embarassing geographers and globe trotters all over the world, I admit that Belize was not a c
ountry I had even known to exist before, coincidentally, it formed part of my Central American Journey tour package. 'Cool' I thought, 'I wonder what that will be like.'
My first destination in the tiny country was dangerous San Ignacio - known for not only its supersize food portions, but also its drug scene; one which I was offered to part-take in several times while walking down the road. Still, a polite 'No, thanks,' was quite enough. Downtown we stumbled upon a great little restaurant about the size of a squash court with the best range of Belizian and Mexican cuisine I had seen so far - and we had eaten out virtually every night, give or take a few when our stomachs felt a little shy.
In San Ignacio, I decided to climb down into the Crystal Caves - quite foolishly unbeknown to me just how deep this thing really was. A nice early rise and two hour hike up the jungle later, we stood, in a group of five with our leader, the only man who knew what he was doing, before the gaping mouth of the cave. Vampire bats flew in and out to greet us, thankfully it was not their lunch time.
