Starkey VS Politics

In the words of fabulously well-spoken Dr David Starkey - renound historian and now an overnig
ht legend, the time is right for a political revamp in the United Kingdom and political figureheads should not waste any more time if their wish is to make it down in History.
It was a bold and brave speech to give on Thursday night's showing of 'This Week', but Starkey delivered it shrewdly with a healthy coating of flattery for the shadow PM, David Cameron. His proposal is that we do what our ancestors did centuries ago and incorporate our essential heads of state; the monarch, the House of Lords, the House of Commons into a new model that is entirely electable- the American model - the president, the Senate and the House of Representatives. We, at present, only elect the House of Commons.
He highlights something that is becoming increasingly apparent to the public - that now more than ever is the right time for radical change, a rare but significant occasion. Two hundred and fifty years in the past, political activity and innovation went down in History as our American colonies broke away from the British Empire, and as Starkey believes, today may be the time again for similar revolutionary reform.
To end his insightful analysis of the current political climate, Dr David Starkey subtly urged that there was a clear choice for political leaders looking to seize power - should they choose to act now, they would grace the faces of History books to be read by scholars in the future for their grand acts, but, should they choose to miss the opportunity, regardless of their political career, their name will fade away with the vast majority of life as it gets swallowed into the past. Interestingly, little has been heard from Buckingham Palace in these dire times - and I agree with Starkey when he says that this royal silence will only continue.
